Thoughts of afterlife and eternal life

Does afterlife exist ? I don't think so. If it doesn't then everything is vain ... Can we succeed physical eternity ? Why not theoretically bacteria can live forever...

Eukaryotic cells of organisms, at the ends of chromosomes, involve certain genetic sequences without any information, the telomeres. During each cell division, the telomere size decreases because its tip is not copied. Thus, during the increased cell division, telomeres are shortened. When they acquire a certain size, then the cell ceases to divide and die. For this reason we age. If we can change that, maybe we are able to live forever, or at least for hundreds of years.

Regarding the bacteria, I do not think they are dying, such as man. They just don’t exist anymore when they divide into two identical bacteria. If a bacteria doen't reproduce, theoritically will live a lot longer.

There is another way to expand our life for decades. We can use a type of cells the name of which I don't know in English :D (let's say genetic stem cells, "vlastokyttara" in Greek) which are cells which can be used to produce any type of human cells we want. I agree with you, there are many ways to expand our lifespan but eternity seems like a lost cause ... An idea to think about ... Assume that mind ( which is consisted of atoms ) obeys simply to the laws of nature ( no soul is involved ) and that every thought we make or every action we take is a result from those laws ... and based on our genetic material let say our mind had a certain algorithm. If we could take that algorithm and make a robot written on those algorithms and then extract our memories in its hard drive ( if we can succeed in the first part the second part shouldn't be that hard :P) .... that robot wouldn't be us ! ... I know it's science fiction but science fiction is what makes science reality's breakthroughs !

I'm glad . Ksereis oi geitones sinennoountai kalitera ;) file mou . I believe conscience is what defines us , conscience of who we are and i believe this has to do partly with our memories . Even if i was to be reborn in south Africa without my memories i would feel different i would think different i would make different choices i would have different values i would be someone else!!! I don't think our body defines us as a person ( green eyes, black hair , big nose etc. ) because even without an eye i would still be me , even without a leg i would still be me and so on . But if i had Alzheimer i might continue to be myself but i wouldn't who that self is !!!! It is confusing , i haven't found the right answer yet . Well, there is still the possibility of having a divine identity restricted in a mortal body but even if i wanted to i wouldn't be able to prove it ....
