A question about light!

You can only see things when there are light. But, if you are in the space, you go faster then the light.. Light cannot go into your eyes. When I turn back and look at the sun, what will I see? Only black or something else?

Einstein has concluded that no object can be ACCELERATED and achieve a velocity bigger velocity than light, by using a Lorenz equation which is:

m = m' / ( 1 - (u/c) ^ 2 ) ^ (1/2)

where m is the mass of an object with velocity u,
m' is its mass when it has no speed,
and c the speed of light.

As you can see, if this object is accelerated and u becomes equal to c ( u = c ),
then this equation becomes:

m = m' / 0 => m = infinity whcih is impossible, as no object can have infinite mass!

So, no object can be accelerated and have the speed of light. We cannot travel faster than light in space. ( Sorry for the maths Kelvin, I know you are too young to know them. Just accept that we cannot travel faster than light. and please wait till you learn more Physics and Maths)

If we were sitting in a rocket which travells almost with the speed of light, could we see the light of the rocket behind us, could we see the passengers that are behind us? Or we would see only black?

The answer is really strange. No matter which is your speed, the velocity of light is the same for everyone! Suppose that I have no speed and you are travelling inside your rocket with almost the speed of light. Supposes that you open a light at your rocket. You will see the light travelling with 300,000 km/s. The strange is that, although you have a great speed, I will see the light too travelling with 300,000 km/s.

Now, regarding your question. How would the Sun look like IF we could travel with the speed of light (we cannot)? Because of Doppler's effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doppler_effect), the faster an object goes away from us, the more red it looks like and the faster an object is approaching us, the more blue it looks like. If you had the speed of light, you wouldn't be able to see the sun, because it would have become so "red" that you could see it only as radio light with infinite wavelengh.

So, the answer to your question is that IF we could have the speed of light and we were travelling away from the Sun, we wouldn't be able to see the Sun.
